Unlearning for True Knowledge Series 7: Why Confidence Follows Clarity — Not Praise

by AnselHill Academy

Many children are told, “Well done!”
But inside, they still feel unsure.

Real confidence does not come from praise.
It comes from clear understanding.

At AnselHill Academy, we build confidence by removing confusion first.

The Hidden Confidence Problem

In many UK classrooms:

  • A child completes work correctly.
  • They receive praise.
  • But when the question changes slightly, they panic.

That tells us something important:
They memorised the process — they did not understand the principle.

What We Do Instead

We challenge understanding in different forms.

Example:
If a child solves:

3 × 4 = 12

We then ask:

  • What does 4 × 3 represent?
  • Can you show it using counters?
  • Can you explain it to someone younger?

When they can teach it back, clarity replaces doubt.

Why This Matters

  • Clarity removes anxiety
  • Understanding survives unfamiliar questions
  • Confidence becomes genuine

This is why our students walk into exams calm — not just hopeful.

Why Parents Trust AnselHill Academy

Because we don’t inflate confidence.
We build it properly.
